Background
I earned my MSc in Physics and PhD in Biophysics from Moscow State University Physics Department in 1989. From 1989 to 1992, I worked as a Research Associate at the Institute of Experimental Cardiology, National Cardiology Research Center, Russia, initially in the Laboratory of Physical and Chemical Methods (Prof. E. K. Ruuge, Head), and then in the Cell Engineering Group (Dr. T. Vlasik, Head).
From 1992 to 1995, I was a Visiting Research Associate at Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Lipoproteins and Atherosclerosis (Dr. C-Y. Yang's group), and in 1995, I moved to Dr. L. Chan's group in the Department of Cell Biology/Medicine as a postdoctoral fellow, where I stayed until 1998. I joined The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) in the Fall of 1998.
